CNN, change the way you look at the world.
The catchphrase can serve as a stepping-stone to a full range of implications. For example, we may come to realize that there are more than one way to look at the world; the world is more colorful, more complicated, more vicious, more hopeless than we previously believe; the way we look at the world can be changed if we really want to break away from our narrow existence; we need to know facts and facts and facts to get to truths; we need to change our outlook and viewpoints before we can set out to change ourselves and change the world; in order to break away from our stereotyped thoughts, we need adopt a more neutral stance when we know how to communicate with the people living somewhere else with different interests.
These implications lead to a world of color arguments. For example, one implication is that we might be narrow-minded, self-righteous, erroneous, shallow, superfluous, short-tempered, and impatient. In all probabilities, we might be so and without knowing we are. Little knowledge is dangerous. Danger, that’s what such ignorance may lead us to, if we keep ourselves from facts.
By recommending itself to us in a way that suggests that it is a responsible news media, CNN wants to say that it covers the world in a way we should favor. Of course, if we are to be mature, we need to know more before we leap to any hasty conclusions. However, we need to guard ourselves from being manipulated and swayed by CNN’s news reports. Such a possibility does exist.
On the other hand, CNN is not the only means we have to change the way we look at the world if we need such a change at all. We can resort to more tools to look at the world. What is more, when we are watching out for facts, we must mind conclusions we may draw from these news stories. We should guard ourselves from bad thinking habits, such as bigotry, ignorance, biases, -isms, textbooks, and teachings. And we need to take care of the hygiene and sanity of our inner world and keep ourselves from being poisoned and polluted by our own ignorance and by those who want to influence us and manipulate us. I mean we need to know how to look at the world when all the news reports are presented to us and we need to distinguish information from misinformation.
As for the slogan itself, my personal view is that the catchphrase is a pretty good hype for a news media. CNN has reasons to use it instead of using other similar phrases.
